YWCA Cortland

At YWCA Cortland, we will get up and do the work tirelessly until the world sees women, girls, and people of color the way we do. Equal. Powerful. Unstoppable.Today, we raise our fists in solidarity with Black Americans across the country in celebration of Juneteenth. The day signifies the day that enslaved people in Texas learned that they had been freed – 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. While thousands of individuals across the country are just now learning the meaning and significance of this day, the fight for freedom and to dismantle systemic and institutional racism continues.

A celebration that should not have happened, remember slavery is a national disgrace then, now and forever.
