{"id":14651,"date":"2026-04-27T15:58:59","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T19:58:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cortlandywca.org\/?p=14651"},"modified":"2026-04-27T16:25:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T20:25:47","slug":"homer-rec-summer-swim-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cortlandywca.org\/index.php\/homer-rec-summer-swim-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Homer Rec Learn to Swim Summer Program Returns to the YWCA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>*Original publication date: April 27, 2026.*<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Village of Homer Recreation Department will offer <strong>free swim lessons for residents of the Village and Town of Homer<\/strong> this July at YWCA Cortland!<\/p>\n<p><strong>If space allows<\/strong>, registration will open to residents of other municipalities during the last week of registration at a rate of $50 per session.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"42\" data-end=\"279\"><strong>Online registration opens June 1 and closes on June 30. <\/strong><em>(registration link goes live June 1)<\/em><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"42\" data-end=\"279\"><strong>Session #1:<\/strong> Four-week session held Monday &#8211; Thursday<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"281\" data-end=\"459\"><strong>Class Dates: <\/strong>July 6 \u2013 July 30 <em>(no classes on Fridays)<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"281\" data-end=\"459\"><strong>Registration Dates: <\/strong>June 1 \u2013 June 30\u00a0<em>(non-Homer residents can sign up the last week of registration IF SPACE ALLOWS)<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"598\"><b>Ages:\u00a0<\/b>5 &#8211; 15 years old<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"598\"><strong data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"492\">Level 1 Class Time: <\/strong>1:00 \u2013 1:30 pm<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"598\"><strong data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"492\">Levels 2, 3 &amp; 4 Class Time: <\/strong>1:30 \u2013 2:00 pm<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"481\" data-end=\"598\"><strong>Online Registration Details:<\/strong> Parents\/guardians will use the online registration link above (when it goes live on June 1) to submit required information, sign permissions\/waivers, and provide details to help the YWCA assign children to correct swim lesson levels.<\/p>\n<p>See below for swim lesson level descriptions:<em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Level 1:\u00a0<\/strong>Students are introduced and work on elementary skills. Blowing bubbles, opening eyes under water, front and back floats, and glides.\u00a0 Alternating and simultaneous arm and leg movements on front and back are also introduced. \u00a0All skills are done with the support of the instructor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Level 2:\u00a0<\/strong>Students need less support.\u00a0 Front and back glides with kicks are taught, and combined arm and leg action on the front for five body lengths.\u00a0 Students work on fully submerging and holding their breath and front floats for 5 seconds.\u00a0 Students open their eyes underwater and retrieve objects.\u00a0 Treading water is introduced as well as exploration of the deep end.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Level 3:<\/strong>\u00a0Front and back glides are unsupported. Front and back crawl become more accomplished. Rotary breathing for front crawl, dolphin kick and elementary backstroke will be introduced.\u00a0 Students will be able to jump in the deep end, and diving (from the knee) will be introduced. Students will increase their time of treading water to 30 seconds.\u00a0 Lessons will be in the deep end.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Level 4:\u00a0<\/strong>Instruction includes coordinating front crawl (25 yards), backstroke (15 yards), elementary backstroke (25 yards), breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly (15 yards). Dives are done from a standing position.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Swimmers must pass all skills to move to the next level.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>*Content included in this post was accurate on the date it was published.
