YWCA Cortland Closure Update

Per New York State, gyms to remain closed

Health & Fitness Program Offers Two Outdoor Fitness Classes

As New York State continues to reopen per Governor Cuomo’s New York Forward Plan, YWCA Cortland’s Leadership is closely following the guidelines as they become available.

Gyms, including YWCA’s Health & Fitness program, have been mandated to remain closed indefinitely. YWCA Cortland wants to keep our members safe and healthy, and we are thinking of creative ways to start bringing back programming slowly.

Until we can officially open the program and the facility, YWCA will be offering the following two outdoor classes in the parking lot at 14 Clayton Avenue.

Mon & Wed, 9-10 a.m., Boomer Nation

Tue & Thu, 9-10 a.m., Cardio Pump Conditioning

The classes are free for YWCA Cortland members but donations are appreciated. We are limiting space to 20 participants to maintain social distancing. To reserve your spot, please call the YWCA at 607-753-9651. We will require a minimum of 3 students per class. All reservations must be made by 8:00 a.m. on the day of class. All classes are subject to cancellation due to weather conditions.

Please bring a mat, weights, water, and face covering. We will have a limited amount of equipment available for your use. While you are allowed to exercise without a face covering, participants will be required to wear a mask if social distancing cannot be maintained while walking to and from the workout space.

As an essential service,
YWCA’s Aid to Victims of Violence (AVV) program will continue to operate as it has since the organization closed to the public on Tuesday, March 17.

The Child Care program will continue to accept children of parents who work in industries that have been allowed to reopen. YWCA is advising families that enrollment numbers have been decreased to meet new regulatory mandates, which limit the number of children allowed in daycare and the school-age summer recreation and before/after school program.

The facility and other programs, which include Health & Fitness and Mentoring, will remain closed to the public until allowed to reopen by the State’s New York Forward plan. YWCA is dedicated to keeping the community informed. It will post updates on its website and social media pages as changes in operations occur.

Under the guidelines of the State’s reopen plan, YWCA’s income-generating programs remain closed or severely limited as of August 12.
Please consider making a donation to the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.
