Volunteers are integral to supporting our organization and bringing about positive change in our Cortland community. Each year, YWCA Cortland recognizes outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to serving others. These volunteers of the year exemplify the values of compassion, dedication, and selflessness. 

On May 11, at our 2026 Annual Meeting, staff and members of the YWCA community came together to honor these outstanding volunteers and contributors. Please scroll down and read what they had to say.

Kimberly Stevens

Honored with remarks made by Sara Earl, former YWCA Cortland Mentoring Director, Director of Development, and Development Committee Member

“Since joining the YWCA Giving Committee in 2017, and the Board of Directors not too long after in May 2019, Kim Stevens has helped advance the mission of YWCA Cortland with unwavering dedication. She served two three-year terms on the Board and continues to offer her thoughtful, creative, and strategic insight to the Development Committee. The visionary and driving force behind the Dream Big Cash Raffle, Kim constantly inspires Board and Committee volunteers to do more than they think possible because of her positive can-do attitude and kind personality. A regular presence volunteering at our events, she lends her time and talents with infectious enthusiasm and perseverance. She helps the YWCA build relationships, secure crucial fundraising support, and raise awareness of the vital programs and services YWCA Cortland offers to our community. Thank you, Kim, for always going above and beyond!”

 

Guthrie Cortland Medical Center

Honored with remarks made by Stacey Rorick, Here We Grow Child Care Center Supervisor

“It is my great honor to present the Community Award to Guthrie Hospital.

The relationship between Here We Grow Childcare Center and Guthrie has been truly meaningful. Since Guthrie acquired Cortland Regional Hospital our partnership has grown stronger year after year, built on trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to our community.

Guthrie, along with Jen Yartym, has shown incredible support by taking the time to truly understand the needs of the families we serve and by recognizing the critical importance of quality childcare. Their commitment goes far beyond words—they have stepped in time and again to support us even while they have struggled with staff changes and shortages.

Through our collaboration with hospital staff like Tom, Mike, Troy, and Jessica, Guthrie has helped us address our ongoing maintenance needs with consistency and care. From fixing small issues like a broken light bulb to larger upgrades, such as our recently updated fire alarm system, they have demonstrated a genuine investment in our center and in the community we serve. Over the years, they have also assisted us with painting, pest control, and even during times of unexpected challenges, such as flooding.

Our center provides care for an average of 60 children each year. Working families rely on our services and, by extension, on the support of Guthrie Medical to help make that possible.

Because of their efforts, our facility is not only welcoming and beautiful, but also safe and secure for every child in our care.

We are deeply grateful for Guthrie’s partnership, generosity, and unwavering dedication to our children, families, and community.”
