Unwavering Support for Survivors
Every student who steps onto a campus carries with them a fundamental right: the right to learn, grow, and thrive in an environment that is safe, supportive, and free from violence. Yet, too often, students—particularly young women and marginalized youth—face the devastating reality of sexual assault and harassment.
At YWCA Cortland, our mission to eliminate racism and empower women is inextricably bound to the work of ending gender-based violence. We know that safety is the baseline upon which all educational achievement rests. Today, we call upon secondary schools, colleges, and universities across our region to fully embrace their vital role as protectors, advocates, and agents of accountability.
To our educational leaders: YWCA Cortland remains ready to partner with you in training staff, updating policies, and providing trauma-informed resources. However, leadership requires courage. We urge you to lead with transparency, center the voices of survivors, and take decisive responsibility for creating campuses where safety and justice are guaranteed to every student.
To the survivors: We see you, we believe you, and we stand with you. We stand shoulder-to- shoulder with brave survivors, advocates, and students demanding systemic change Our YWCA Cortland Aid to Victims of Violence (AVV) Program is here for you. We are available to listen and discuss your needs and concerns, provide information about your options, and offer support in a judgment-free, trauma-informed way.
We can also help individuals navigate school and college systems, including understanding their rights and options under Title IX, addressing concerns related to sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking, and providing advocacy and support throughout the process.
Our hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year at 607-756-6363
