Community Prevention Coordinator
The Community Prevention Coordinator leads prevention education, outreach, and community engagement efforts for the YWCA Cortland Aid to Victims of Violence (AVV) Program. This position focuses on increasing awareness, building community partnerships, and delivering education related to domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and healthy relationships.
The role supports campus-based prevention efforts funded through Enough is Enough, while also contributing to community outreach and providing limited advocacy
support to ensure a coordinated, survivor-centered response.
Responsibilities:
Prevention Education & Campus Engagement (Primary Focus)
- Develop and facilitate educational programs on consent, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, and violence prevention
- Deliver trainings to college campuses, schools, and community groups
- Collaborate with campus partners, including Title IX offices, to support compliance with Enough is Enough requirements
- Coordinate and participate in awareness campaigns and events (e.g., It’s On Us, One Love)
- Maintain a consistent presence on campus to build relationships and increase accessibility Community Outreach & Partnership Development
- Build and maintain relationships with community agencies, schools, and organizations
- Represent AVV at community events, coalitions, and outreach opportunities
- Identify gaps in prevention education and expand programming to underserved populations
- Promote awareness of AVV services throughout the community
Advocacy Support (Secondary Role)
- Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals as needed
- Support clients through accompaniment (medical, legal, law enforcement) as appropriate
- Collaborate with advocacy staff to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain a trauma-informed, survivor-centered approach in all interactions
Program Operations & Compliance
- Maintain accurate documentation and data collection in accordance with grant requirements
- Track prevention activities, outreach efforts, and services provided
- Ensure confidentiality of all client information
- Participate in on-call rotation as assigned
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and program events
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, human services, social work, psychology, education, or related field preferred
- Associate degree with 2–4 years of relevant experience in prevention education, outreach, or victim services may be substituted
- Experience facilitating training, workshops, or presentations strongly preferred
- Strong communication, public speaking, and relationship-building skills
- Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, and related issues preferred
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across community and campus settings
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends
- Must be able to pass a background check
Working Conditions: Work occurs in office, campus, and community settings. Responsibilities may include travel, evening/weekend work, and interaction with individuals in crisis.
