2024 YWCA Volunteers of the Year
Original publication date: May 20, 2025*
Volunteers are integral to supporting our organization and bringing about positive change in our Cortland community. Each year, YWCA Cortland recognizes outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to serving others. These volunteers of the year exemplify the values of compassion, dedication, and selflessness.
On May 12, at our 2025 Annual Meeting, staff and members of the YWCA community came together to honor these outstanding volunteers and contributors. Please scroll down and read what they had to say.

Marilyn DeLorenzo & Toni Tiburzi
Honored with remarks made by former YWCA Cortland Executive Director, Amy Simrell
“Marilyn and Toni are being honored for their years of dedication to ensuring the success of YWCA Cortland’s Annual Pig n’ Par Golf Tournament. Marilyn was there from the beginning of it all 23 years ago and while we don’t know exactly when Toni joined, I do remember she had black hair! Together they have been an unbeatable team.
Marilyn never forgets to include anyone who has ever said “yes” to volunteering for the tournament. I said “yes” to Marilyn at least a decade ago and I imagine I’ll be there again selling 50-50 raffle tickets on August 1!
Toni, a skilled golfer and veteran of many tournaments, brought the innovation of Pig n’ Par’s “First Aid Kit,” which every team is strongly encouraged to buy. This kit has “magic” features such as “the string” which puts your ball one length closer to the hole (or potentially in the hole!), “the kick”, helpful for getting your ball back on the green, or “the underhand toss”, particularly handy for when your ball lands in a sand trap.
Together, they put such thoughtful time into creating a positive experience for golfers. When they teamed up with Development Director, Robyn Hayes, the tournament went from raising around $15,000 every year to exceed $25,000 to enrich the programs of the YWCA. Over the years working together on this event, we estimate they have helped raise $200,000 to $250,000 for YWCA programs and services.
Thank you Marilyn and Toni!”

Nick Ackley, Max Graphics
Honored with remarks made by Kim Stevens, YWCA Board of Directors Member
“Nick Ackley at Max Graphics has provided us with all of our printed material at Cortland Eye Center since 2013. He is quick to respond to my emails and delivers promptly and often ahead of schedule every time. He does the same for many local businesses including some of the printed material for the YWCA Cortland. We asked him several years ago if he would be willing to print the YWCA Dream Big Cash Raffle tickets as a contribution, he immediately said he would be happy to and he has been handling that for us ever since.
I know he makes other contributions of his printing services around our community. I know that Nick prefers to function below the radar of accolades, but he is very deserving of our thanks and recognition. We are always impressed with his excellent customer service, and we are grateful for the contributions he makes here at the YWCA and throughout Cortland County.
We are fortunate to have Nick and his staff at Max Graphics providing core business products, from business cards to signs and banners to marketing materials. He is reliable, always on time, and a pleasure to work with.
Thank you Nick!”
