Advocacy: Take Action to Protect After-School Programs!
*Original publication date: July 9, 2025*
The federal administration has just announced that it is freezing $6.8 billion in federal education funding, including $1.4 billion intended for before- and after-school programs, known as 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC).
New York State receives just over $105 million for 152 CCLC grantees who serve almost 1.4 million students, primarily in high-poverty and/or low-performing schools. If funds are not released as planned, we could see negative impacts on our LEAPS-funded after-school programming at Cortland schools.
We know #afterschoolworks to protect young people! Nearly 9 in 10 voters say programs give parents peace of mind, prevent risky behaviors, and help kids develop communication and social skills. Tell Congress to save afterschool!
Take action today! Tell policymakers that this funding must be released immediately.
