YWCA Cortland will hold a Polar Plunge from Wednesday, November 2 through Friday, November 4 to help raise funds for unexpected and extensive pool repairs.

On Sunday, October 2, the cast iron main valve on the 100-year-old pool rusted through and required that we drain the pool completely to complete extensive, and unexpected, repairs. We started refilling the pool on Monday, October 31 and will be reheating it on Wednesday, November 2. We expect it to take several days to reach the 90-degree warm water status.

Why not take the plunge and raise some funds?

For a $20 entry fee, participants can plunge, jump, step, or slide into our newly filled–and not yet warm–pool. Participants can choose a plunge time convenient for them during the following days and times:

  • Wednesday, November 2, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm and 4:00 – 8:00 pm
  • Thursday, November 3, 9:30 am – 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
  • Friday, November 4, 8:30 am– 12:30 pm

To register, call the YWCA at 607-753-9651 or stop by the front desk at 14 Clayton Ave.

If you don’t want to get wet, we have some other ways you can help!

  1. Guess the date and time when the pool water temperature reaches its usual warm 90 degrees! To participate, pay $20 per guess and fill out a thermometer card with the date and time the pool will reach 90 degrees. Winners will receive a $15 credit to use towards any YWCA Health and Fitness program.
  2. Families are welcome to participate in the YWCA Gym Palooza on Friday, November 4.  For $20 children will have slides, tunnels, and structures to climb on, and an instructor will lead you and your family in fun activities! The Palooza is for ages 2-10 and will run from 4:00-6:00 pm.
