The deadline to vote on the postponed Public Referendum for the sale of Parker Elementary School by the Cortland City School District to the City of Cortland has been extended. YWCA Cortland encourages everyone to vote!

You can hand-deliver your ballot to the Kaufman Center (1 Valley View Dr, Cortland) by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, or you must mail your ballot in time for it to be delivered to the district office by Tuesday, June 16.

Eligible voters in the school district should have already received applications to vote by absentee ballot. If you did not receive one, please contact the Cortland City School District at 607-758-4100.

If the referendum passes, the Cortland Common Council will then hold a vote to decide if it will purchase the school for $91. The plan if this vote passes is for YWCA Cortland and CAPCO (Cortland County Community Action Program, Inc.) to use the facility for an early childhood education center in keeping with the wishes of the neighborhood.

You can learn more by listening to a segment about the vote that aired X101’s Meet Cortland County. The radio station interviewed Parker School Task Force Chair Kristina Gambitta, Cortland Schools Superintendent Michael Hoose, and CAPCO’s Executive Director Lindy Glennon.
